My 21 years of experience in education has helped to nurture my intense passion for the literacy needs of students. This literacy passion began as a Reading Recovery and classroom teacher of first, second, and third grades. As a Reading Recovery/Intervention Specialist in Shelby County I had the opportunity to work with students in grades K-5 of varying literacy levels, while also providing numerous literacy workshops to staff across the district.
I obtained my undergraduate and graduate degrees from Georgetown College, and later completed National Board Certification in Literacy. In 2013, I received an Innovative Instructional Grant for my integration of technology in the classroom, and my teaching videos were selected by the University of Kentucky for teacher training purposes.
On a typical day I am collaborating with teachers to plan rigorous lessons,co-teaching in classrooms, meeting with grade level teams to analyze student work, determining next steps for instruction, and planning future professional learning opportunities for staff (just to name a few).
My husband Tony and I have two children, Hannah (14), Jackson (11), and an attention-hungry rescue dog, Chip. When I am not busy taxiing my children to cross-country and basketball practices, I enjoy planning Disney vacations with my family and creating personalized vinyl projects.
